Management of Continence Problems Following Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy
Functional disturbances after lateral internal sphincterotomy are real and probably underreported. However, the overwhelming majority are relatively minor, often reversible and rarely impact quality of life in a measurable way. The etiology of postsphincterotomy in continence is probably multifactorial. The results of surgical repair have been disappointing and cannot be recommended. Emerging alternatives such as silicone injection may prove beneficial.
